On-call service and the emergency department are not the same. Where can you find them?

There are major differences between the emergency medical service, the emergency department, and the outpatient on-call service, even though all of these help in cases of worsening health and life-saving situations.

Outpatient on-call service (APS), or on-call service at the polyclinic

The so-called medical on-call service, formerly known as the Medical First Aid Service (LSPP), is available to patients outside general practitioners’ office hours, as well as during weekends and public holidays. It is provided separately for children and adolescents and for adults.

How does the on-call service work?

This is outpatient care that patients can use, for example, for fevers, pain, allergic reactions, dizziness, minor wounds, or other conditions that are not directly life-threatening. It is available in almost all larger towns across Slovakia, in polyclinics, hospitals, or general practitioners’ surgeries.

Where is the ON-CALL SERVICE located?

The on-call outpatient service for both adults and children is located at Špitálska Street 13 in Nitra (polyclinic building).
