Department of Hospital Hygiene and Epidemiology

The Department of Hospital Hygiene and Epidemiology addresses hygiene and epidemiological issues within the specific conditions of a healthcare facility, covering prevention, intervention activities, routine hygiene supervision, epidemiological investigations, and educational and consultation activities.

Main Activities

• reducing the risk of occurrence and spread of nosocomial infections, and developing local surveillance of nosocomial infections
• ensuring hygienic and anti-epidemic requirements for the operation of FN Nitra according to the specific requirements of individual departments
• monitoring cleanliness and environmental quality
• monitoring water quality
• overseeing food hygiene standards and compliance with good manufacturing practice principles
• checking compliance with and implementation of decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization procedures, cleaning protocols, safe waste management, and handling of linen
• providing consultation on the preparation and implementation of construction projects, technological and equipment procurement, and investment projects
• developing, in cooperation with clinic management, operating procedures for the hygiene and epidemiological regime at individual clinics
• providing ongoing training for healthcare staff, including education on hand hygiene and other anti-epidemic principles
• proposing measures to support management decision-making
• comprehensively manages and coordinates cleaning operations at FN Nitra
• cooperates with external institutions and regulatory authorities, particularly the Nitra Regional Public Health Authority, the Public Health Authority of the Slovak Republic, National Reference Centers, and the Ministry of Health.
